Two Art History professors of Leiden University, Prof. Dr. Kitty Zijlmans and Prof. Dr. Robert Zwijnenberg, have joined forces into a new honours class! "Art matters" is an investigation into contemporary art practices in the age of globalization (with a focus on processes of interculturalization) and technologization (with a focus on biotechnology). The course will address the ethical, cultural, societal and political implications of globalization and technologization from both a scholarly perspective and art practice itself. For the purposes of this honours class, The Arts & Genomics Centre is coordinating three workshops by artist Anna Dumitriu. During these sessions, students will be engaging in a practical and theoretical understanding of art/science collaborations. In the tradition of previous bioart courses, they are expected to get their hands wet! "Art Matters" is part of the Leiden University Honours Programme 2011. |
